Contour and Gesture Line Drawing
Level 1
This lesson will teach you how to draw using contour and gesture lines. The focus is simple lines, shading is not included in the exercise.
Time:
2-3 class periods
Gesture - fast, loose, messy line
Contour - slow, smooth, tight line
Materials for this lesson include the following:
drawing paper
drawing utensil (marker preferably)
Objects to look at - whatever you can get your hands on (including you hands/feet!)

Instructions
Draw the outline of the entire object then draw the inside lines.
Assignment
1. Draw your hands 5 times. Preferably on the same paper. Create an interesting composition by overlapping and drawing your hand in different positions.
2. Pick 5 different things to draw and create at least 3 drawings that focus on line. Again, creating an interesting composition.
3. 8-10 drawings should be uploaded into your portfolio with the title "contour and gesture line drawing"
