One-Point Perspective

Level 1

Time:

5-7 class periods

Linear perspective is all about lines, rules of space, and (you guessed it) perspective! Perspective is technically the view from a specific position.  One-point perspective simply means that the view is from one point (such as a camera lens or when you close one eye. There are vocabulary terms that will be used often in the demonstrations drawings, you should familiarize yourself with the following terms:

Vanishing Point

Horizon Line

Horizontal Lines

Vertical Lines

Orthogonal Lines

Parallel

Perpendicular

Rules of Space

1.  Objects that are closer are larger, further away they're smaller.

2.  Objects closer and lower in the composition, further away they're higher.

3.  Objects that are closer are darker in value and more defined, objects further away are faded/lighter and fuzzier, not as defined in lines (atmospheric perspective).
