Animal Grid Drawing
Step 1: You will need to print a good, clear picture. I find that if there are filters it washes out the values and does not print well.
Once you print the picture, you will put a grid on your drawing. I used a one inch grid, that is really easy with the type of ruler I am using.
Side note: If you are doing this on your own, you can take a photo and get an app on your phone to add a grid on top of a picture.
Step 2: For this assignment you are going to make a grid that matches the same number of lines as your picture but instead of one inch you will do a two inch grid. You will need a marker to create this grid. Always measure the top AND bottom so that your lines are straight and parallel.
Step 3: Look at your printed picture, identify all the darkest areas and go ahead and use a pencil to draw a line around it. That is where we will begin in your drawing.
Step 4: Once you finish identifying your black values with a pencil on your picture you will draw that shape onto your blank paper on top of the grid then fill it in (with any black materials, I used ink).
Step 5: Use a pencil to draw an outline around the positive space, then you will draw that same outline onto your drawing, use the grid to make it the same but bigger, use a pencil and draw lightly.
Finishing: Use color pencils or crayons to shade your drawing. Pay close attention to the light and darks. My dog is a reddish brown color but the light reflects and that area is lighter and there are shaded areas a darker shade, same color but darker.
